Love Is Not In An Hourglass

It all begins with an idea.

This morning I sat with my journal, on day two of testing out the very practice I’ve created for others. The prompts are simple:

  1. What am I feeling?

  2. Where is it in my body?

  3. What might it be trying to tell me?

Today, the answer to the first question was clear: fear.

I lit candles, said prayers rooted in my culture, and leaned into the familiar rituals that help me feel grounded. The irony isn’t lost on me. I’ve often been given candle rituals, not realizing how deeply they already lived in my lineage. This morning it felt like a full-circle moment. The candle is still burning as I write this.

The second question brought me into my body. The fear sat at the top of my head, a pressure that reminded me of how easily I can get stuck in my mind. Fear rarely arrives neatly packaged. It presses. It lingers. It takes up space.

And when I asked what it might be trying to tell me, the truth began to surface: fears about age, about gender, about being alone. Fears about time and the haunting sense that it is running out.

But then, like a gift, a sentence rose up: Love is not in an hourglass.

Beyond the Fear

Fear tries to convince us that life is slipping through our fingers like sand. That if love hasn’t arrived by a certain date, it may never come. But love doesn’t keep time the way we do. It doesn’t measure itself against calendars or clocks.

Love shows up when we are open. It blooms in the smallest, most ordinary spaces. It exists outside of urgency. Love isn’t a countdown. It isn’t running late. It is not in an hourglass.

A Gentle Reminder

If you, too, ever feel the weight of fear in your body, fear that time is slipping away, that you are behind, that you are missing something, pause. Breathe. Place your hand where the fear lives. And whisper to yourself:

Love is not in an hourglass.

You have not missed your moment. You are still in the middle of your story. And love in all its forms is still available to you, right here, right now.

Sacred Musings is my space to reflect on life, love, and the spiritual lessons that come with being human. Thank you for walking this path with me.
